The Company Dance
Curriculum
- Fine Arts Day Camp: Suggested ages are 3-5. JTB ages are 5-7. Their first dance experience! Combination of TAP, BALLET & JAZZ. Emphasis is on fun & Creativity!
BALLET
The fundamental for all dances! Ballet training gives a dancer the solid foundation in all aspects of movement. All classes are progressive and based on a structured curriculum to enhance the grace and beauty of the art.
- Ballet 1: Suggested ages are 6-8. Students learn basic steps, feet and arm positions, terminology, and basic combination steps.
- Ballet 2: Suggested ages are 7-10. Students begin to learn body positions and reinforce proper body placement, and more terminology, and basic combination steps.
- Ballet 3: Suggested ages are 11-13. Students should be aware of body placement & terminology. In this class students will begin to learn more complex combinations and steps.
- Ballet 4: Suggested ages are 12 and up. Students should know all basics. This class will work on strength, polishing on choreography.
- Pointe: Must be enrolled in Master Ballet
- Lyrical: A ballet based jazz class with an emphasis on expression. It is highly suggested that students be enrolled in a ballet class to participate.
JAZZ
Emphasis is on technique and choreography. Jazz class includes warm-up, center exercises, turn across the floor technique. We explore all styles including street jazz, lyrical, and era jazz.
- Mini Jazz 1: Suggested ages are 5-6. Battement combinations across the floor are introduced. Hitch kicks and chene' turns are performed across the floor in combinations. Inward pirouette turns and axels are introduced.
- Jr. Jazz 2: Suggested ages are 7-10. This curriculum will be building on the foundation of JAZZ 1. Inward pirouette turns and axels are increased to a higher level of difficulty. Jazz center combinations and across the floor work is increased.
- Pre-teen Jazz 3: Suggested ages are 11 & Up. This curriculum will be built from JAZZ 1 & 2, with a higher level of difficulty. New skills introduced include leaps such as so de sha and grand jetes. *Great class for Jr. High & High School Street Jazz Class.
- Sr. Jazz 4: Must be able to do all progressions in Jazz 1-3. Pique and outward pirouette turns are introduced. Level of difficulty is increased on chene' turns, inward pirouette turns, and axels. Class will be combining select turns and select leaps, Russian leaps, and switch leaps. *Great class for Jr. High & High School Street Jazz Class.
- Adult Jazz: Bring your friends and exercise to a new beat! This class will have you moving &
grooving. Floor work is also included.
TAP
Rhythm, style and technique are the basis for this exciting class. Students will work on technique, terminology and choreography for performance. Rhythm tap is our specialty, as well as stylized, funky and rock tap. All styles will be explored, and introduced.
- Mini Tap: Suggested ages are 5 & 6. Students will be working on shuffles, heel-toe combination steps and point sequences. Shuffle combinations will be introduced. Brush toes transformed to walking flaps and flap heels introduced.
- Jr. Tap: Suggested ages are 8-12. Students will be learning shuffle combinations including continuous shuffle sequences. Walk-in flap sequences combined with shuffles are introduced. Backward walking flaps and backward walking flap heels are practiced. Begin to transform walking flaps into running flaps.
- Pre-teen Tap: Suggested ages are 8-142. Student's curriculum from TAP 1 & 2 is strongly suggested. Shuffle and flap sequences are perfected. Running flap combinations are introduced. Running flaps and flap heels forward and backward are also introduced. Basic beginning turning flap and flap heels are also explorded.
- Sr. Tap: Suggested ages are 10 & Up. Must be able to do running flap and flap heels. Basic beginning tap turns are transformed into more difficult combinations turns. Toe strands are introduced, as well as pullbacks, pickups, and wings. Basic beginning tap turns are transformed into more difficult combination turns. All of these are perfected and expanded.
- Adult Tap: This is a fun and "energizing" class for all levels. It is a great way to exercise, and get back in the swing of things. Come try it...and bring a friend.
Basic tap technique will be taught and developed.
HIP HOP:
ALL AGES! Bring your "jammin shoes!" This is a heavy-duty-funk-fun class that will give the MTV scouts something to check us out for. No experience is necessary. Grab your friends and try it... You'll be back for more.
RECOMMENDED DRESS CODE
- Jazz/Tap/Hip Hop: Solid leotard, or 1/2 top with jazz/Capri style pant.
- Shoes:
Slip on or tie. Tap 1 - black patent leather, tie; Tap 2 & up - black jazz tap oxford.
- Hip Hop: Dance sneakers or tennis shoes.
- Lyrical: Solid leotard, skirt tights. Tan jazz or lyrical sandal.
- Ballet: 1-Lt Pink Leotard, 2-Lt. Blue leotard, 3-Dark Green, Master & Jr. Co. Burgundy.
- Ballet Shoes: Pink ballet shoes with strings tied in a double knot, cut approx. 2 1/2 in length and tucked insides shoe, elastic must be sewn on ballet shoes. POINTS SHOES: Need to be specially fitted.
- Tumble: Elastic shorts, capri's, tank top, or leotard. No tights. bare feet or tumble shoes.
*NOTE about Ballet: Everyone must wear tights. Hair needs to be in a bun if possible. No baggy shorts or loose fitting clothes. No two piece outfits. Leg warmers & skirts are fine.
